Trough Tops the Lot

Four Lincoln University students have designed a mobile drinking trough, taking the $4,000 top award in the BHP New Zealand Steel Universities Design Competition.

Philip Crossland, David Heiler, Ben Scott and Barry Wells of Lincoln University gained their first prize by designing a mobile water trough which can be easily moved from site to site on the farm, taking advantage of feed available.

"Full utilisation of feed may not be available through other methods," say the designers.

Lincoln scooped the awards, with a further three merit awards for designs of a dance barre, a forestry pruning ladder and a casing lifter.
