Fellowship Woes

The letter "Fairness in Fellowships" [September 96] suggests postdocs may expect to receive a $50,000 salary from a FRST fellowship. Unfortunately the advertisements for these fellowships carry the small print "inc. GST". On winning one, a postdoc will find that they get the stipend less the GST, a much more modest $44,400.
