DiscoveryNEW ZEALAND NATIVE WILDLIFE FRIEZE by Sheryl O'Gorman; Puffin/Penguin; $14.95 This wall frieze would make a nice backdrop to a tired nature table, featuring a well prepared diorama-style series of illustrations of New Zealand wildlife. Smaller children may find the life-size weta intimidating (particularly if they think this means that it really is bigger than the nearby kiwi!), but the general reaction has been that the animals are "beautiful". Informative paragraphs along the bottom make the frieze more than just a pretty thing to look at, though the language would be fairly demanding for the primary school level. Vicki Hyde, NZSM |
