Quick DipsMarine EducationOtago University's marine research facility, the Portobello Maine Laboratory, has been busy over the summer months with a range of programmes introducing children to the marine environment. The "hands-on and feet-wet" approach has included beach walks, seaweed cooking demonstrations and laboratory investigations. The Portobello facility is well placed for such programmes, being within 15 minutes of muddy inlets, wind-swept sandy beaches and exposed rocky headlands with a rich variety of inter-tidal plants and animals. |
