SeniorNet Computer Network

A new computer network aimed at teaching retired people how to use computers and telecommunications technology has been established. SeniorNet has been operating in the US for the last six years, and is being sponsored in New Zealand by Telecom.

The SeniorNet Learning Centre, in Wellington, is the first to be established outside North America, and is being operated by the Retired Persons' Association. The centre provides computer facilities, software and training, enabling members to use electronic mail, manage accounts and access a variety of information services both within New Zealand and in the United States.

"SeniorNet will help older people overcome their fear of technology," says Earle Adams, RPA's national president. "SeniorNet is going to open new horizons for so many of our senior citizens."
