Bringing the Weather Inside

A new weather data service providing up-to-date satellite pictures plus current and predicted weather maps for New Zealand has been launched by MetVUW (Meteorology at Victoria University). The service is targeted at people who prefer to analyse satellite images and weather maps themselves and draw their own conclusions as to how the weather will develop, such as commercial weather forecasters, local television, research scientists, engineers, farmers and private users around New Zealand.

"We now provide significant additional information such as colourised satellite pictures and current and predicted weather maps," says Dr James McGregor, head of MetVUW. MetVUW also provides specialised data services, such as forecast weather maps out to fifteen days, which could be of value to horticulturalists and growers, he says. The new service is available by subscription and can be accessed at http://www.metvuw.org.nz.
