Computer Contest

Victoria University took fourth place in the final of a world computer problem-solving contest held in San Antonio, Texas. To qualify for the final, Victoria beat 28 other universities from Southern California, Australia and New Zealand. Last year's final was won by Otago University.

Dr Peter Andreae, who helped prepare the team, says New Zealand's top placings in two successive years show that this country has the programming talent to foot it with the best.

"It would be nice if this was recognised more by big organisations in New Zealand, who have a tendency to look overseas for software development," he says.
