Rare Fellow

Professor Jos Arrillaga of Canterbury University has become only the second New Zealander to be elected a Fellow of the U.S. Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He was honoured for his contributions to the analysis of high voltage direct current power systems.

Arrillaga has been involved in HVDC transmission research for 25 years. His most influential contributions are pioneering research on direct digital control and recent work on the systematic integration of HVDC in power systems analysis.
