RetortsCaprine ControlRe Cathryn Crane's review of Alternatives to the Chemical Control of Weeds, little was said of the use of goats -- well trained, good mannered, intelligent goats. A certain amount of friendly persuasion is occasionally necessary plus a soupon of supervision, but I find that allowing them one half of the day on solid weed and one half on grass achieves a fine balance of the control of both. Goats respond to animal wifery and loving respect. They are wise, intelligent and perspicacious (more so than any human). They possess an inexhaustible appetite, the results of which are processed and distributed by the simplest form of aerial top-dressing. It is neither an arcane nor particularly scientific concept, but goats guarantee successful weed control. I look forward to your magazine's arrival each month. Bertha Foote, Palmerston North |
