Under The MicroscopeTHE UNDERWATER WORLD (Te Marae Nui o Hine-Moana), a Kit for Teachers of Forms 1 and 2; prepared by the Department of Conservation and the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society, 1990; $10 Much "resource material" that thumps onto the desks of Heads of Department goes at once to the Big Round Filing Cabinet In The Sky, but this kit is worthwhile because it is not pushing a brand-name or soliciting money. It is useful to teachers, who should either look for it in the BRFC of their HOD, or get another copy. There is a teachers' guide, which is a mine of ideas; 10 photocopy masters, some well written by Kim Westerskov; six glossy photos; posters; a Maori glossary; untold pamphlets, maps and diagrams, and -- aha! -- one commercial advertisement. I wonder how much they paid? Ken McAllister |
