Quick DipsHybrid ManagersNew Zealand needs a new type of manager, according to Dr Sally Davenport. Davenport has been appointed to a new lectureship in Science, Technology and Management at Victoria University. The multi-disciplinary course aims to produce scientists with managerial skills and managers with an understanding of science. "We can't hope to regain our standing in the world economy without a pool of skilled New Zealanders," says Davenport. "We need `hybrid managers', people with expertise in more than one field, for example a scientist or engineer who also has experience in the commercial world." |
