Schools on the Moon

School classes in the US and internationally are gaining the chance to participate in NASA's Lunar Prospector Discovery Mission, with Moonlink. The Internet-based educational programme brings interactive lunar exploration into the classroom.

Moonlink is "a value added program...where children can follow the course of the mission and actually have a small unit on the Moon's surface," says Scott Hubbard, Deputy Director of NASA Ames Research Center. "They can learn about the scientific process."

Through this programme, students will help NASA scientists in the creation of new knowledge. Each Moonlink team, which consists of 12 to 24 students, will attempt to simulate the flight of the spacecraft to the Moon. They will also collect and analyze live data from the Lunar Prospector and share their findings with other students around the world and with NASA scientists.

For more information about Moonlink, contact Scott Piotrowski at 1825 Nimitz Drive De Pere, WI 54115, US; fax (920) 339-4619; international@space-explorers.com
