Under The MicroscopeBIRDS AND SMALL MAMMALS -- A PEST CONTROL MANUAL, By R.E.R. Porter, M.R. Rudge & J.A. McLennan; Manaaki Whenua Press, 1994; 88pages; $35.00 Reviewed by Jim Thomas It doesn't take long to get familiar with the layout of this well-organised and cross-referenced pest control manual. First find the crop that you are interested in (very easy) in section two. Here you get a summary of the range of pests and a list of methods of control. You go from there to section three to find details of the control methods listed. It's easy for a commercial grower (or keen gardener) to find particular information. This book should be within arm's reach of advisers and pest control officers. It is environmentally friendly, animal welfare-aware (I know they are pests but ... ), and produced by three experts drawing together current knowledge. Recommended to all interested parties. Jim Thomas is a veterinarian with a particular interest in animal welfare issues. |
