PAUATAHANUI INLET - A LIVING RESOURCE by Neil Bellingham; Education Support Consultants, Wellington; $15.00

Reviewed by Judith Sidaway

This resource kit provides activities, worksheets and background information for students and teachers at primary and secondary level. Although the material was written specifically for use at the Pauatahanui estuary, it was supposed to be useful in estuarine studies throughout New Zealand. Included are five booklets about geology and historical background; life on the mud flats for levels 1-3; estuary shore for levels 4-5; ecological studies for levels 6-8 and planning and references for teachers.

The packaging and presentation is attractive but it provides for rather many levels. As the kit is cheap, few would quibble about having to set aside some of the booklets. However, much of the information would be of limited use to those outside the Pauatahanui area. Bearing this in mind, the kit could be useful to have in your reference library.
