Over The HorizonOutfoxing Sound Problems at FoxThe giant Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia, where the next Star Wars films are to be made, owes its quiet reputation to a New Zealand company, with Auckland-based Autex Industries supplying more than $100,000 worth of specially developed, high-density, acoustic panels to the studio complex. The development of the high-density, sound-absorbing product, traded under the name Quietstuf, was carried out by Autex at its Avondale base, with production at Autex plants in Melbourne and Sydney. Quietstuf is manufactured from polyester fibres thermally bonded to produce a sound-absorbing matrix, and is being increasingly used in favour of mineral fibre products for performance and health reasons. In addition to the Fox studios, Quietstuf has also been used in the Melbourne and Sydney Casinos and is being specified for a wide range of projects, from hospitals to multiplex cinemas. |
