Food Hysteria

Goodman Fielder has announced that it will no longer use soy bean oil in its products, because the oil might have come from genetically modified plants (Press, 12/03/99, pg 9). This firm sells bread under the Quality Bakers, Vogel and Molenberg labels.

Soybean oil is a highly purified product that no longer contains any DNA or protein, regardless of the genetics of the source plants. When company management has this level of professional knowledge and competency, readers may not be surprised to learn that Goodman Fielder shares have drifted downwards for some time as a result of poor profits.
