In response to K. Kerr's letter [Retorts, July]:

I agree that purse-string-holders hinder expression of personal achievements. In the mid-nineties, Telecom forbade showing academic qualifications, except Dr, on employees' business cards. Those who thought that a description of their position was necessary were told to "...print off stickers on the laser printer which you can put on the rear of your business card."

How is that for encouraging pride in academic and personal achievements?
