DiscoveryNEW ZEALAND SEASHORE SECRETS by Sally Carson and Denis Pag; Hodder Moa Beckett, 1995; 48 pages; $19.95. This is a beautifully illustrated books absolutely full of magnificent colour photographs covering many aspects of New Zealand's rocky shores. The text is interesting and easy to read, and covers a range of material at an elementary level, including the influence of tides, the importance of zones and space, and adaptations of feeding methods, camouflage and reproduction. Probably best suited to middle to senior primary age students, this book would have applications with a wide range of age groups and would be a valuable asset for the library or classroom. Slightly older students would be able to make use of some of the text as well as the photographs. This is a book I would buy more particularly because of its New Zealand content. Greg Walker, NZSM |
