Black Hole

Polytechnic Breakthrough

By Richard Raizis

News has leaked that a small team of dedicated staff at Christchurch Polytechnic are on the verge of a major breakthrough in computer hardware technology that seems destined to revolutionise the computer industry.

A usually reliable source has indicated that the sheer size and power of a new computer motherboard, dubbed the "mother of all motherboards" will leave all competition in its wake.

Below is an artist's impression of the new motherboard highlighting some of the salient features.

  • TV -- Video Port
  • L -- ROM: Read-Only Memory
  • S -- Magnetic Power Supply
  • N -- Magnetic Power Supply
  • A -- CPU: Central Processing Unit. The CPU as we know it will be replaced by a system of 3D parallel processors (end 1993)
  • ST -- RAM: Random Access Memory (Central Store)
  • Hard Drive -- at the Sullivan Avenue Site, in fact about 5 min hard drive

Richard Raizis is a lecturer in the Science and Computing Department at Christchurch Polytechnic, and really should know better...
