RetortsSod's LawI don't have Russell Dear's mathematics [Neurobics, July], but I believe that he relies too much on logic and ignores Sod's Law. I change to the shortest supermarket queue and the till breaks down just before I get served. I change to the shortest queue in the bank and end up behind someone from the same supermarket cashing in the week's takings. In the two goats and a car TV gameshow, I would have chosen the car, changed my mind for logical reasons, and ended up with a mathematician. Numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 do not win Lotto.
