RetortsJekyll or Hyde? The Great New Zealand Public, it would seem, loves an underdog. In recent days, this has been most depressingly evident in reactions to Dr Jim Sprott's crusade against the Cot Death Association. Many people seem convinced that the CDA has been actively obstructing Sprott's research and are angered about this, while somehow managing to ignore the fact that the noble doctor is cheerfully whipping up a media frenzy to kill off funding that might be applied to researching any theory other than his own. Regardless of which theories are most deserving of research resources (something I'm quite unable to comment on) I feel Sprott deserves nothing but condemnation for his purely destructive antics. P.
