LONGMAN WRITE ON NOTES BIOLOGY 7, by Meg Bayley; Longman Paul,1995; 124 pages; $11.95

This is a simple but very useful idea which could form the basis for a course which would be expanded on by the class teacher and students could record their own additional information and ideas. The notes could easily be interspersed with their other work, handouts and practicals, and further supported by text books and reference material.

A convenient idea is that the notes come as a pad which can be divided up and placed into a ringbinder or some other form of storage with the student's other course material. The notes are well written and presented, with the student objectives at the beginning, along with a course outline and a brief description of the Bursary examination. There are a series of useful self-check exercises in each section, with the answers provided at the back. The pages are clearly laid out and easily read. The information supplied is directly relevant to the course and to the point. Students should have little difficulty following them. A nice idea are the spaces on the pages for students to add their own additional notes. Notes like these could be of particular benefit to those students who like to have some basic support material for their course.
