DINOSAUR ACTION PACK: An Interactive Guide to the World of the Dinosaurs; William Heinemann Australia/Reed, 1994; $29.95

I enjoy learning science by doing things instead of reading all the time, so kits like the Dinosaur Action Pack one are really good.

This pack has lots of information books, a game and a dinosaur model to make. It also has posters and copies of letters and drawings from people who found dinosaur skeletons last century.

I enjoyed playing the game and am planning to make up the model stegosaur skeleton, but what I really like most about the pack is that they have a list of all the dinosaur types and their names, plus how to pronounce them. There is also information on how the scientists worked out what the dinosaurs looked like and how they built the skeletons and models from the fossil bones.

I think this Action Pack would make a good present for 9-12-year-olds who are interested in dinosaurs and what happened in the past.

Keith Murray is in Year 7 (Form 1) at St Andrews College Preparatory School in Christchurch. He has a passion for ancient things, particularly archeology and fossils.
